About Myself

I just started a new position as University Professor and Director of the Institute of Distributed Systems at Ulm University. More details on my work here will follow.

I am also Assoc. Professor at the Distributed and Embedded Security Research Group at University of Twente in the Netherlands. My research focus is on security and privacy in mobile systems and wireless networks, especially focusing on Intelligent Transport Systems and Inter-Vehicle Networks. I am coordinator of the European research project PRESERVE where we take exploration and testing of V2X security to the next level. I am of course also involved in a lot of other research and teaching activities.

Before moving to University of Twente, I worked as a Senior Researcher ("Privatdozent") at the Institute of Media Informatics at Ulm University where I finished my habilitation in 2009. At Ulm University, I established a local research group being involved in various research projects like SeVeCom and Preciosa. Besides my research activities I also taught courses on "Mobile and Ubiquitous Computing", "Web Engineering", and "Security in IT Systems".

In 1997, I graduated in computer science at Ulm University, from where I also received my doctoral degree in 2003 with highest honor ("summa cum laude"). My thesis was about "Security in Ad hoc Networks". It was suggested for the annual dissertation award of the "Gesellschaft für Informatik e.V." (German Computer Society) and received the dissertation awards of both the University Society at Ulm and the Südwestmetall Association.
